Described by Bobby Charlton as "the embodiment of all that I think is best about football", Paul Scholes is the ultimate players' player.
Shunning the spotlight and always letting his football do the talking, he has a haul of medals only a few other footballers can match.
Born in Salford, Scholes excelled in both cricket and football in school. He first trained with Manchester United at the age of 14 after being spotted by a scout and he made his debut for United in the 1994–95 season.
He has since gone on to make more than 600 appearances for the Red Devils, putting him fourth in the all-time list of greats.
In that time he has picked up nine Premiership winners medals, three FA Cup medals, two League Cup medals and two Champions League winner medals.
Despite retiring from international duty in 2004, he also managed to win 66 caps for England, scoring 14 goals.
